In Memory of Megan

I made this video for a girl named, Megan. She gave me the strength to go on during hard times. She gave those who are bullied a voice, and was sweep away from us too quickly.

Prom

Hey all,
I am so sorry to have not been writing, but hey I'm a normal teen who has to go to school. Funny isn't it models live normal lives outside there work. Well any who I had been studying for finals like a madman. Then I did 50 hours of tutoring kids. Though I managed to sneak in Prom, and Point Fest. It's a wicked concert that 105.7 the Point puts on. It has around 26 bands and 5 stages. I saw Sick Puppies! :)

Paper Dresses!

Hey all!
I wanted to talk about one of the coolest shoots I have been on. It was an Earth Day shoot, and they asked everyone to make outfits out of recyclables. My mothers favorite book is, The Devil Wears Prada, by Lauren Weisberger, so I  made a dress out of her paper back copy. ( I surmise that the only reason she let me do this is so she can by a hard cover.) The pictures were taken in the Loop's  Moonrise Hotel ,by photographer Rebecca Haas. Back to the dress.... It took about four to five hours to make, and I was really afraid that it would a child's art project. Though while on location I was asked who designed it.... it made it all worth it...

Model Profile: Kay Browning

Hey!
I have decided to do profiles of,  well anyone I want really! So to start off I am doing a profile of Kay Browning. I met this lovely lady on a shoot for a magazine, and I even got to wear a paper dress. Though I am trying to stirr up attention to those who deserve it! What I love about Kay is that she is one of a kind. She is curvy, tan, and has stricking eyes. Her hair suits her, and I can not get enough of her freckles they are to die for! Without further delay... I give you Kay:

Ballet

Modeling reminds me of Ballet and you will understand as I go on:
I danced for fourteen years and then decided to retire and got back into this year. I remember now what I love about it. I love the discipline and the failure it's what makes dance beautiful. I mean you can dance your whole life and still fail miserably: if your like me still keep coming back to eat floor.

It's the feeling you get when I reach the top of your level and seem to know it all, and still having  to push to be the top of my class. When I'm ready to get moved up and then I'm  feeling pretty good, until I realize I'm at the bottom of the scrap heap all over again! Then I realize that no matter what level I'm in there are thousands of schools with dancers more talented than me. I remember the young girls with the natural talent that make me look like an old hag. The pain I get when I don't get it right, and the joy I feel when I nail it. There are always a thousand things to worry about and improve on at once.

The physical demands are painful, and time consume. Both strength and flexibility are needed in balance.  Its an addiction with perfection that never comes, because we are never good enough. We are always trying to defeat ourselves and those around us. We will fail miserably 99% of the time but that 1% is pure elation, that fades quickly when we see another hurdle. One wrong move and it could all be over. But just for that 1% its worth it.

That's the art. Its the beauty that comes from the dancers soul nurtured by pain and yearning. Our blood we shed is the grace and ease the audience sees. It is not only art, but a war against oneself and ones universe. That is why it is you captivating.

I believe modeling is the same way but more external. You battle with your skills and knowledge, other models, and to fit with an alliance, an agency. You can't stop fighting, because you want that 1%. The question is why do I pick things that focus on my own failure. I must be mad to enjoy my 99% only because I know that 1% is the future. If I keep playing the odds.

Chicago

Hi all!
I went on a trip to Chicago, from April 11th through the 13th, with my mother to visit Alexis. Alexis is an amazing fashion designer who asked if I could model her line. We got in around 4pm on Monday. That night we all went to the John Hancock building's signature lounge, were I enjoyed non-alcoholic martinis and a great view of the city at sunset.

Then at around 7:30pm we got take out at Giordanos, they have the best pizza in the world. While waiting for our food we went to the Nordstrom Rack on Rush Street. I got the coolest outfit. When we returned back at the apartment and ate our pizza. At midnight I was taken on an impromptu tour of Chicago. Going from West Madison and around the Loop and even by Lake Shore Drive.

I got up around eight and went to the Sofitel for breakfast. I had duex eggs with ham, and their bread was amazing. I believe they have the best hot chocolate in Chicago.

My mother and I walked around afterward. We decided to go back to Madison by taxi, and it was a cab ride from hell. When approuching Madison Ave from Wacker there is a street that runs underneath the train. Well the taxi driver was going about 60mph and got an inch away from hitting a pedestrian.

Tuesday we ate dinner at Lawry's. I had the prime rib english cut and it was amazing. Around 1am,  Alexis put me in her designs and we went out to shoot around Chicago (see these pics here).

The next day I was privigeled to meet: the head of  Galatea,  Marie P. Anderson, and the man in charge of its runway, Ryan Beshel. They talked to me for a while and this is the advice they gave me:
  • Be confident, "Fake it till you make it."
  • You are a product so sell yourself.
  • If you are 'vertically challegened' than invest your talents in acting. Actually this good for anyone, because it makes you more dynamic.
  • When you are asked, "What do you want to do when you grow up?" Do not answer, "I don't know," say, "I imaged myself working for you."
  • Do not let your guardian speak for you, 'they are not your secretary."
  • Also keep trying, listen to critism and try to improve yourself.
Then I had lunch and said goodbye to Lexi. I left at 4pm and stopped to visit family on the way home. I finally arrived back in the STL at 10:30pm!

Sink or Swim

Hey to all!
As I think you have guessed: I am Meghann. "Why is this important, and who is this girl?" And I will tell you. I am a young model beginning her career and it isn't easy. When you think you have made it in the modeling world, must likely you have the rug pulled out from under you.  99% of the time  end in defeatand then only 1% of the time you have success. Just remember, "You never fail until you stop trying." That is why no matter how many times I am rejected I get back up and turn my luck around. Take all the criticism you can get and turn yourself into a product.
I (Meghann) am a young and adventurous woman on the cusps of adulthood. I am a hard worker, and will sell myself until there is a shortage. I am here to tell you its not an easy job, and nothing is handed to you. Finally I will be that 1%.
